Westhampton Beachfront Real Estate

Situated among the most western portion of the Long Island South Shore are the communities of Westhampton Beach and Quogue. Both are strung along the Atlantic beachfront and are part of the area known simply as “The Hamptons.” Real estate in Westhampton is thriving, as the area provides luxurious living, amazing beaches, restaurants, shops, and an array of cultural activities. Westhampton Beach has been designated as a Tree City USA every year for the past 15 years.

Both Westhampton and Quogue are located on separate peninsulas that divide the south bay between the barrier beach and the island proper, into Moriches Bay to the west and Shinnecock Bay to the east. The geography of the area makes for an ultra convenient bicycle route that is accessible from the villages to the ocean beaches.

Originally settled in 1666 as part of the Quogue Purchase, Westhampton Beach was basically isolated until 1870, when a railroad stop was established. Thus began the tourism industry, as inhabitants started to offer lodging and services to visitors who came in from the city. Since that time, the area’s agriculture dwindled and farmland was sold in order to develop residences and hotels. P. T. Barnum built the first residence in Westhampton, and this was called the Howell House. It is located on the corner of Beach Road and Main Street in present-day Westhampton Beach.

Westhampton Beach was incorporated in 1928, and is considered the center of activity in the Hamptons. Westhampton Beach boasts excellent schools, high-end boutiques, restaurants, and beautiful homes, all of which contributes to the rising value of real estate in Westhampton.

The Greater Westhampton Chamber of Commerce is the village’s organization that aids in advancing business relations in the communities of Westhampton, Westhampton Beach, Quogue, Quogue, East Quogue, and Remsenburg-Speonk. The Chamber seeks to improve business in the area, as well as work towards the improvement of the economic and cultural welfare of the entire Hamptons community. The village of Westhampton offers prospective and current businesses a talented work force, low taxes, strong infrastructure, and stellar business support services.
