A beautiful and upscale municipality located on the south shore of Long Island in New York, Westhampton Beach is well known for its laidback seaside lifestyle and affluent homeowners. The town is located just 78 miles from midtown Manhattan, providing a lovely escape for wealthy New Yorkers. Westhampton beach realty is a steadily rising market, featuring decadent Westhampton beach homes, beautifully landscaped lawns, breathtaking beaches, and perfect tree lined streets.
The Greater Westhampton area is increasingly appealing to those looking for a year-round residence in which to raise a family. Although highly popular as a summer retreat, Westhampton Beach is a great place to live during all four seasons. With excellent schools, diverse cultural activities, close proximity to the city, and the small town feel, Westhampton Beach real estate is virtually ideal.
The Greater Westhampton area encompasses several communities including the Incorporated Villages of Quogue, Westhampton Beach and Westhampton Dunes, and the unincorporated hamlets of Quogue, Hampton West Estates, Westhampton, Remsenburg, and Speonk. All of the communities offer residents and visitors with exclusive beauty, quiet living, and close proximity to New York City.
Stately mansions, impressive single-family homes, and luxury townhomes are just some of the reasons why Westhampton Beach homes are extremely popular for those seeking to relocate to Long Island’s Hamptons.
A Charming Little Village
Westhampton Beach was first settled in 1666, as part of the Quogue purchase. Like today’s Westhampton Beach real estate, the tourism industry of the village grew on a daily basis once the railroad stop was established around 1870. The village of Westhampton Beach was incorporated in 1928, and is considered to be part of the town of Southampton.
The Westhampton Beach Historical Society serves as a place of interest and learning for all residents and visitors of Long Island. Currently housed in a 150-year old farmhouse home built in 1840 by Josiah Tuthill, the Historical Society presently resides on Mill Road, in the Incorporated Village of Westhampton Beach. The Historical Society underwent a complete renovation of the house/museum in 1995. At that time, it was awarded an absolute charter by the Board of Regents of the State of New York.
The village of Westhampton Beach is governed from one accessible location in its new Village Hall, a “green” building, which features offices, Building Department, Court, and meeting rooms.
Westhampton Beach is also home to Suffolk County’s Francis S. Gabreski Airport, a general aviation facility with two fixed based operators and a 9,000 foot runway. The airport can accommodate aircraft of any size, and is utilized by nearby corporations, businesses, private aviation and air taxi services.
The commute to New York City from Westhampton Beach is just a short drive away, taking approximately one and a half hours. Whether by car, train or jitney, people can work from their Westhampton Beach homes and venture into the city twice a week or more without minimal hassle.
The community of Westhampton Beach is upscale and fairly close-knit. The village’s schools, churches, libraries, and overall atmosphere attract summer dwellers as well as those looking to relocate year-round to this Long Island paradise.
